My journey in photography started when I was about five years old. My mom, an avid photographer and legal expert, had been in our combination broom closet/darkroom for over an hour.
"Mom, what are you doing? When are you coming out?", I demanded, as only a five year old can do.
After pleading with her to let me in and promising not open the door until she gave me permission, the door opened into the darkness.
I remember the awful smells and the soft glow of a yellowish-red light.
I'll also never forget looking into the developer tray and seeing an image slowly come to life. "I want to do that!", I thought. And I have ever since.
First in the darkroom, then shooting 35mm film, then transitioning to digital. I still possess that wonder of seeing images come to life on my screen when I offload my memory card. Thankfully, without the laborious work that I had to perform back in my darkroom days.
I've come a long way and my experiences have been my tutor, along with many mentors, including my mom. While I've had the joy of mentoring others and doing well in photography contests, it's more important to me that I've provided my clients with lasting memories that have meaning and value, especially as the years go by.
